We have received a report of a theft a catalytic converter on a Toyota Corolla at an address in Tittensor. The theft happened between 17th and 18th February.
Investigations are on-going, if you can assist officers in anyway, please contact 101 and quote: 459 - 24/02/2026.
Catalytic converter thefts have become common in recent times, however, the good news is with a mix of physical deterrents, smart parking and visibility measures, the risk can be minimised.
Install a physical anti-theft device - these are the most effective deterrents because they make removal noisy and time consuming
Options are: Catalytic converter shield/plate - metal plate bolted over the converter Converter cage or clamp - steel cables or bars around it Security bolts - tamper-resistant fasteners
Mark or register the converter Marking makes resale harder and can deter theft - Etch your VIN or registration number onto the converter Use bright high-temp paint Register is with a national property marking database
Park to reduce access Park in a garage if possible If on a driveway, park close to a wall or another car to block access underneath Choose well-lit areas and consider motion lights or CCTV
Add alarm or motion protection Some aftermarket alarms include tilt or vibration sensors that trigger if the car is lifted Even a visible ‘alarm sticker’ can discourage opportunistic thieves
Know if your car is high-risk Hybrid cars and vehicles with higher ground clearance (SUVs, vans) are often targeted because converters are easier to reach and contain more precious metals Please continue to report any suspicious people/vehicles in your area. These reports help police to assess who is active in your local area and with this information, we can proactively take action and increase more targeted patrols.
Thank you. | ||
